Victoire Veloce Life
Victoire Veloce Life
This bike was not built for a customer, it is a test bike. The aim was to show our vision of the modern performance road bike. This model was also part of the training course of one of our framebuilder who joined recently the team. There are now three framebuilders and one mechanic to build the bikes and the handcrafted wheels. We worked hard this year to produce more bespoke bicycles and to increase their quality. The lead time is now of 12 months between the order and the start of the fabrication.
The geometry of this bike is the result of our experience on more than 300 bespoke bicycles. The frame was built around the Columbus Life range. Each element was carefully selected to get the best balance between comfort and efficiency. The 44mm headtube combined with the bi-oval 38mm downtube and the 31.7mm top tube on the headtube side is the key to get a precise handling of the bike. On the seat tube side, the top tube diameter reduces to 28.6mm to offer more flexibility to the rear triangle and a better filtration of road bumps. The bended chainstays and seatstays offer a perfect fit with the crankset and the tire. They are linked by 3D dropouts to transfer the pedalling energy to the rear wheel.
The cables routing
The internal cable routing is a trademark of Victoire bikes. Most of our clients chose this option that provides a very clean aesthetic. This Véloce is no exception to the rule and get all our experience. We built a specific process to offer a smooth shifiting and braking while avoiding any interference inside the tube. The internal routing makes also easy the maintenance. Each cable is guided by a small stainless steel tubing, so it is easy to route it from a side to another. You may have noticed it on our previous creations, we put a specific attention to the bottom bracket area. The two derailleurs cables come out of the down tube just before the bottom bracket and are then guided by small stainless tubing, brazed and hollowed out to evacuate the water. Each internal guide welcomes a plastic liner for a smoother functioning.
Another point we have worked a lot on this year is paint. We are about finalizing a complete range of paint scheme and colors before the end of the year. We chose for this model a one color metallic paint with our new graphic identity designed by Manivelle. This multi-coat spangled paint will change with the light, from dark brown to bright orange under the sun light.
We wanted an efficient and consistent built for this Véloce. We have selected components close to our value, mostly from Europe. We chose clean and high-end parts, tried and tested, and well-known for their quality. A lot of components are from Italy, like the Futura Caliper fork from Columbus, like the tubing. The groupset is a Campagnolo Record combined with Shamal Mille wheels and Fizik parts. Only the Chris King headset, the King Cage bottle cages and the Compass Cayuse Pass tires are from the other side of the Atlantic.
We had the opportunity to do a handful of rides with this Véloce. We felt immediately the cohesion we were looking for on the bike after the first spins. We are one with the bike. The transfer of the pedalling energy is optimal. The Record crankset offers a smooth ride while the Shamal Mille have impressed us by their efficiency. The position is safe when it goes down. The stiff front end offers a stable and precise handling. The braking is very efficient, even under the rain, thanks to the treatment on the rims and the specific pads.
The comfort is also very good, this Véloce filters well the road bumps. The Compass Cayuse Pass offer a really smooth feeling in their Extralight version.
