Thierry's Victoire Voyage
Thierry's Victoire Voyage
For Thierry, cycling is a family buisness. He started pedalling when he was 10, with his father. The latter is now 83 and Thierry is newly retired but they are still riding together once a week.
Thierry has started travelling by bike four years ago, with a MTB and an Extrawheel trailer. He now goes 2 or 3 times a year for long trips. It quickly appeared that he needed a bike more adapted, but for him, it has to be tailor-made :
I did not want to get the same bike as everyone, I wanted a truly unique piece. There is now a lot of choices on the market but I had a very precise idea of what I was looking for.
Initially, Thierry just ordered a frame and a fork. He eventually went for a complete bike :
I am particularly meticulous and the creations you show on your website convinced me to trust in you to build a complete bespoke bicycle.
The lead time also enables him to precise his choices :
It was not a problem to wait for my bike. On the contrary, it enables me to think over my project to get a bike that suits perfectly my needs. For example, I initially wanted a triple chainset but I finally went for a 1x groupset. Despite my experience, I could noticed that my ideas were not necessarily the best. By discussing with a young team, I could open myself to new standard and gets advices I could not get somewhere else.
Another example, during my fitting last April, at the occasion of the Victoire Customers Weekend. I precised to Julien I wanted a similar geometry to my roadbike, even he said me it would be better to get more sloping to get on the bike when it is loaded. I went for a trip a few times later and I changed my mind for this option as soon as I was back.
Thierry's frame is made of Columbus Life and Reynolds 853 tubing for the front triangle. Chainstays and seatstays come from the Columbus Zona CX range to get enough clearance for 35mm tires and fenders. The fork is also handcrafted in our workshop with specific fork blades from Reynolds. They are reinforced at their end to support disc braking. The wheels axles are in 12mm to improve the stiffness.
The SRAM Rival 1 groupset is upgraded with a Force 1 crankset and a Garbaruk 36T chainring. The SRAM HRD brakes are the perfect option to stop the bike and its load in every conditions. We paid a lot of attention to the wheels, handcrafted in house. Thierry insisted on getting a reliable wheelset. The H+SON TB14 rims were laced with DT Alpine spokes on a SON Delux dynamo hub at the front and a Hope Pro4 36H at the rear. The build is completed with Ritchey Silver components that match perfectly the sky blue of the bike.
Thierry did not hide his enthusiasm when he saw the bike :
I have the impression to be 10 years old and to get my first bike from my father. It is like a gift. It is wonderful, it is exactly what I was looking for !
Thierry will no wait too long to go for a long haul with his Victoire Voyage :
I will take the plane with my bike to Lisbon on the 8th of January. From there, I will ride 290K to the south of Portugal, to Faro. Then, I will cross Spain from the Via Verde, Albacete and Valencia. It is a 2400km trip.
