SEBASTIEN'S VERSUS XCR
SEBASTIEN'S VERSUS XCR
Ever since early childhood, Sébastien uses the bike as a means of transport. Either daily journeys, commuting or travelling… he swears by his bike. Kilometers were never a drag for him so he naturally turned towards long distance and bikepacking at a time he had to make monthly round trips between Clermont-Ferrand and Montpellier.
In august 2016, the Transcontinental Race first checkpoint was Clermont-Ferrand. This is where Sébastien meets two guys from our team.
We spent three days together supporting our friends. My bike at the time wasn’t in great shape and I had the same philosophy with the Victoire team. The idea of young artisans from my town creating my bike was convincing. A few months later, I decided to jump in the adventure and ordered my futur bike. My project never changed from start to finish. This Versus is one of a lifetime and I believe I should take the plunge when I know exactly what I want. Your team was very helpful to refine certain choices and your advice on the single chainring was great for the choice of transmission.
The frame was made from Columbus XCr stainless steel serie. 44mm headtube to fit the Fyxation Sparta All Road fork. Sébastien chose this fork for the seamless eyelets allowing him to use different loading set-ups. T47 bottom bracket, internal routing, lighting, mudguards eyelets, luggage rack and third bottle cage.
SRAM Force 1 one by transmission. This technical solution allows to have an appropriate speed range, to simplify the transmission and loose a bit of weight. Brakes are hydraulic disc again from SRAM Force 1 for confort and safety. Stem and seat post are Thomson. We like the products from the American brand for the great value and look. Sébastien requested a gravel handlebar so we chose the Easton AX70, with Brooks saddle and bar tape.
Wheels were hand-assembled in our workshop. Front hub with Shutter Precision dynamo, Hope rear hub, aluminium Mavic Open Pro UST Disc rims and DT Revolution spokes. This wheels set-up is a great value : 675€. Sébastien wanted to use his trusty Schwalbe Marathon Supreme Tubeless tires.
Lastly, Supernova lights.
Sébastien was in Clermont-Ferrand so he took the opportunity to come and get his Victoire Versus.
The bike reveal was a mix of emotions, dread, excitement and joy. Joy got over dread when I saw the amazing bike. The quality of the welding is unbelievable - great work !
Bags onto the bike, Sébastien went to Aurillac for his first ride.
Riding through Sancy and Cézallier after the bike reveal was just perfect. No adjustments to make when I first ride the bike is a great feeling, everything was already perfect. The bike is very confortable. After quite a long stop, I don’t have the right legs yet to judge the nervousness of the bike. My project with this bike is to explore eastern and southern Africa. There are a few reputed routes in the Great Lakes region that could be nice, along the Kivy Lake near Rwanda. Malawi seems to be breathtaking too. And Madagascar is also on my list. The island has a 2000 kms long route north to south. The scenery is beautiful and the ecosystem is unique. I have always dreamed of going to China as well. I have a revenge to take on the TCR and there are all these 5€ BRMs. The list could go on and on …
