SÉBASTIEN'S VICTOIRE VÉLOCE
SÉBASTIEN'S VICTOIRE VÉLOCE
As a sports lover, Sébastien enjoys running and biking. He rides mountain bike, fixed-gear, road bike … Since he’s a busy person, his typical rides represent two to three hours on sustained pace.
I don’t have that much time now for long rides but I’d like to extend them with my Victoire.
He reviewed all the hand made frame builders and decided to begin the creation of a custom-made bike with Victoire Cycles. His project was focused around reliability, weight and price.
The frame was built with Columbus HSS series tubes. Thanks to these hydroformed tubes, we can make a sportive setup by stiffening some parts of the frame like head tube or bottom bracket, T47 standard for this bike. The rest of the frame has usual features like Flatmount caliper mount for disk brakes, a fillet-brazed seat collar or some Syntace dropouts for 12mm thru axle. The Syntace system allows to get an aluminium derailleur hanger which is also an international standard so it can be fixed by any bike shop. Sébastien wanted to add two options on his Véloce. First, the internal cable routing for a cleaner look of the frame. Then, some paint protector stainless steel strips on the headtube to protect from the cable rubbings.
As usual, we dealt with this project by choosing every single component carefully in order to meet the client’s needs and also staying within budget. On this project, we gave special attention to transmission and wheels. SRAM Force 22 group gives a nice balance between functionality/weight/price but this crankset was not what Sébastien needed. So we picked the Zayante Praxis model in carbon with 48 and 32 teeth chainring to give him a better gear ratio more appropriate for him and less heavy and less expensive. We assembled the wheels ourselves. Mavic Open Pro UST alloy rims have been laced on Hope RS4 Disc hub. The whole thing weights 1500g for 635€ and perfect reliability. A custom-made bike is a set of services and details that leads to a perfectly balanced bike in aesthetic and performance. The man and his bike become a whole set connected to the road.
Sébastien was a bit emotional when he got his Victoire Véloce.
On D-day at the workshop, the bike was there and I felt confort and power when I saw it. A unique piece with details, a very impressive work.
Sébastien rode his Victoire Véloce all summer and came back to us with his impressions.
The first rides allowed me to understand the bike and perfect the settings. Now it is all tamed, I am discovering a new way to ride and I go on roads that are usually impracticable with carbon. Pedaling hard is like no other and with this perfect position I can ride a lot with no pain. Disc braking is a must, efficient and soft, the SRAM Force groupset lives up to the hype, and the wheels suits the frame well. Now, I ride this bike for every occasion, for an impromptu ride (if I’ve got one hour ahead in the evening…) or for commuting, it’s always the same delight, it feels like it’s running itself.
