Johnny's Victoire Veloce
Johnny's Victoire Veloce
Johnny has become the first owner of a Victoire Véloce bicycle in Hong Kong. This creation is also the first one of our collaboration with Life Cycle shop, which is now our official retailer in Asia. For the story, Johnny contacted us directly and went to Life Cycle for fitting and to build the bike. The shop has liked our products so much that they decided to distribute them on the whole Asian continent.
Owner of a Colnago C59, Johnny wanted to ride a bespoke French bike. Like for each of our bicycle, the story started by measurement. the Retül fitting, made by Christopher of Winner Track Performance, allows to perfectly place the contact point in the space. This very precise base allows us to position the crankset, the saddle and the handlebar, whereas the discussion with Johnny allows to write the specification and choose tubing.
Creation of the bike
We finally chose Columbus Spirit tubing for the front triangle. Johnny is a light person so we selected a 38mm diameter down tube to get a less demanding bike. The seatstays and chainstays have a small diameter to increase comfort. The dropouts are Paragon 2D, that is not usual on our Véloce. The stem is tailor-made in our workshop and paint with the same color as the frame and the Columbus Fel fork. It is the same color reference as one of the 1st generation Porsche 911.
Life Cycle take then in charge the complete built with parts carefully chosen by Johnny. There is a Campagnolo Record groupset combined with a Praxis Zayante crankset. The wheelset comes also from the Italian manufacturer with the Shamal Mille model. The other components are also top of the rnage with a Brooks Cambium saddle, a Thomson Masterpiece seatpost and a Ritchey handlebar that matches perfectly the Victoire stem.
On the road
"The bike feels so with me on the first 50km ride. It climbs very well, ongoing like my C59 but got the good re-bounce of steel. I actually shift down a gear on climb than my usual ride. Descend is sharp and steady, feel very confident to cut corners, even more so than on C59. Rolling is comfortable too, steel frame is very good on the balance of dampening effect but still with enough road feel.
The paint job is lovely, I love the grey, almost everyone tells me the grey is great. I love the touch on the logo, the thickness of paint. One great feature of the frame is its internal routings, the crossing alignment is a good details as we can have a better layout of cables along handlebar and headtube. Very thoughtful details. Even the stopper within the cable take-in is clever, no cable guiders needed under BB.
Merci beaucoup à la team Victoire! You really build a magic for me. I feel so at home with this Véloce, both aesthetically and technically. I am lucky to be the first person to have your handcrafted bike at Life Cycle."
