Jean-Philippe's Victoire Véloce
Jean-Philippe's Victoire Véloce
Jean-Philippe got in touch with us one year before his retirement with the idea to replace his carbon bike. He first wanted a stainless steel road bike, to make the long rides confortable. After our first discussions, Jean-Philippe enrolled in a cyclosportive club, and started to ride more frequently. Due to the evolution of his practice combined to our experience and the discussions we had during the postural study, we changed the project for a Victoire Véloce. Jean-Philippe chose to trust us to create the perfect bike for him. The only demand was an orange painting with some visible rough parts on the stainless steel frame.
This bicycle could be considered has the opposite of Julien's Victoire Bellevue presented earlier. It has totally different choices of mecanical features and components. This project represents the infinity of possibilities of our custom-made bicyles. Here, we have a frame made from Columbus XCr tubes, the very hard wearing and light weight stainless steel. The head tube is 44mm standard to carry the tapered steer tube. The tubes are rather wide to obtain a responsive behavior. Jean-Philippe chose an integrated clamping bracket on the shrouds to visualy reduce this part of the frame. In order to smooth out the look and obtain the position defined during the postural study while keeping a reasonable headtube length, the stem is custom-made in our workshop and heighten the handlebar about 10mm. This Victoire is the very first one with the Sram Red AXS group. Even if we not all agree with the idea of adding an electronic battery to an object as simple and environnementally friendly as a bicycle, it is now obvious that this group is very efficient and neat. The 12 sprockets cassette, from 10 to 33 theeth, combine with new chainrings theeth (here, 46/33) offer a great overall gear ratio, efficient during long rides in mountains or lowland areas. Jean-Philippe's bike is complete with a majority of Enve's parts, and more importantly some artisanal wheels hand-spoked with Mavic products in our workshop. Mavic MR801 hubs are associated with Mavic Open Pro Carbon UST rims with disc brakes.
THE BIKE REVEAL
Jean-Philippe came to our workshop to get his new bicycle. It was the opportunity to have a chat with the entire Victoire team who worked several weeks to build his custom-made project. He discovered his bicycle in our new showroom which is just above our workshop :
I got my Victoire on the day appointed. I came with my wife to discover my new bike with all its little appropriate changes that has come troughout six months. The waiting time has really been essential to eventually find the perfect bicycle for me.
After a few weeks of ridinn, Jean-Philippe shared his first impressions :
After my first trial on "les pentes de Sancerre", I went for a 500k three days ride called "les copains d’Ambert ". I have never exceeded a two digits number ride before that. I did it again after 8 days with a 200k BRM... Now "les 24 h du Mans" are next. I still can't believe it. As I read many times before, it really is a flying carpet ! My Véloce's nickname is HUBERT, and became my best friend. I am sure it will stick with me during all my retirement, and even more !!!
