Daniel's Victoire Véloce 953
Daniel's Victoire Véloce 953
Daniel started cycling in 1982 by MTB, at a time it was barely known in France. He raced in solo but also in tandem. In 1993, he discovered road cycling for training. Five years ago, he has gone for triathlon after long years of ultra-trail. He competed in L'Alpe d'Huez - 1st of his category- , in Embrun and recently at the Ironman of Nice where he finished 3rd of the V4 category. Daniel is definitely an athlete and he was looking for a bespoke bicycle that matches his temperament.
It is the second time he trusts in us : in 2015, he ordered a tailor-made tandem for his wife Claudine and himself. He liked a lot the approach :
We buy a unique bicyle, built by a local artisan. It is a long time project in which we are totally involved . We have appreciated a lot the discussions with the Victoire team : they are experts and are here to listen to us and transpose our demands into a bicycle. The final product is exactly what we were looking for : it meets perfectly our need so I did not hesitate to go for a road bike.
Daniel tested two Victoire Véloce, with an identical wheelset to feel well the handling of each frame : a Columbus HSS steel one, and the one in Reynolds 953 stainless made for Rapha. The latter he liked the most.
Daniel wanted a timeless and performant bicycle, with a handling optimized for climbing, both light and reactive. To meet these demands, we took the Rapha Véloce as a basis. The performance was increased thanks to the use of Reynolds 953 stainless tubing with a bi-ovale shape for the front triangle. It increases the stiffness around the bottom bracket. The latter is a T47 that offers a wider welding area, particularly for the oval chainstays. The seatstays are in 16mm to improve the comfort on long rides. The frame features all the latest details we developped last months : internal routing optimized under the BB, reinforced headtube with stainless rings and homemade waterproof water-bottle eyelets.
For the finish, Daniel chose to highlight the raw material with a mat clear coat. The frame is equipped with a SRAM Force 22 groupset and Tune parts that matches perfectly the bicycle's spirit.
After two short rides this weekend, Daniel gave us his first feedback :
I tought it was not compatbile but my bike is both comfortable and very performant ! Aesthetically, it is exactly like I wanted it. The craftmanship is well highlighted by the clear coat. It is a real pleasure to ride this bike, after being involed in the project and wait for it. The relationship with the Victoire team went perfectly once more, it is something very important in an tailored approach.
For the future, I will obviously race some triathlon. I plan to go to Embrun in 2018. In 2019, I would like to take part into Paris-Brest-Paris, but I do not know if it will be on my Véloce or the Tandem with Claudine.
