Alexandre's Victoire Véloce

Alexandre's Victoire Véloce

THE PROJECT

Alexandre is Martine and François' son, both owners of several Victoire bikes. So he came at our workshop with his family on a familiar territory for his postural study. Alexandre wanted a confortable road bike to go on sportive rides. Working in the catering trade, Alexandre doesn't have many time to escape. He rather go on short rides but on a rapid pace. So he geared the settings of his Victoire towards performance. Nevertheless, confort is not neglicted thanks to the dynamic postural study.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

Alexandre was already familiar with the Sram ETap system. So he naturaly chose the new AXS version in red for his new bike. The 10/33 cassette with the 48/35 crankset allow an important overall gear ratio, perfect for a versatile use. Alexandre rides whenever he can, so in all types of weather, so we recommended disc brakes. The Red version helps with the weight, so we end up with a complete bike of 8kg, despite the large discs and frame (237mm headtube). The other components are american, with a complete Enve pack, and as usual a chris King headset.

MAVIC RIMS AND HUBS

During the last Roc d’Azur, Mavic invited us to share a meal with their road product development team, and we were not expecting such a surprise : developed in great disquiet, Mavic was about to reveal a high end solution especially for artisanal manufacturers, with top range rims and hubs made in Europe using their best expertise. In the last few years, Mavic started to focus on wheels, neglecting a little bit the artisanal market who likes hand spoked wheels. An artisanal wheel is a good to decide of the spokes amount and profile, the tension and the components to match the cyclist profile. This Victoire wheels have Mavic CXP Pro Carbon UST new rims. Tubeless compatible, these rims have a 40mm high profile. The braking surface has been laser-treated to get an outstanding braking performance. These rims are associated with Mavic MR801 hubs. There are Jérôme Fantin’s work, the engineer in charge with the conception of all hubs system at Mavic. These new ones remind of the famous Mavic 501 or 571, and use CNC machined components, large diameters sealed bearings, the Mavic QRM’ s system allows a friction free rotation and the ratched ID360 freewheel system offers a nice free wheel melody. Unlike the Mavic hubs that are mounted on complete wheels, these are compatible with angled spokes, allowing for hand spoking. They also have a very neat finish with matte or shiny black anodizing. Just like the major part of Victoire’s projects, these wheels have been hand spoked in our workshop using linseed oil.

BIKE REVEAL

Alexandre came to get his bike with his father François, already a regular customer. Since then, he went on his first ride and he is impressed with the efficiency and confort of his Victoire. Here are his first comments :

Everything is great, everything is perfect. I don't feel a pain, during and after. I rode almost 300km on different types of roads. I felt a great confort and a significant performance. Very easy on high hills as well. Sram works a treat. And its look makes quite an impression.
