Weekend Victoire 2018
Each Victoire bicycle is a story. We start from scratch and we write it in collaboration with its future owner to give birth to the final specification. Then, we shape it thanks to our technical skills : the design of the geometry, the choice of tubing and components, will enable to translate the demands of our client in reality. When the time of the delivery comes, after a long preparation, a new chapter is opening : the newborn is ready to ride.
At this time, we have been lucky to write 350 different stories, so many meetings and relationships created. It is to maintain the latter, and to gather the community that grows up around our creations that we launched last year the first Weekend Victoire.
For the second year in a row, we gathered about thirty clients and supporters on the 6th, 7th and 8th of April on the roads of Auvergne. A return to their roots for the bicycles, but first of all a real satisfaction to see our clients enjoying riding them.
Each participant arrived at the workshop at noon on Friday, to share a snack and discover our latest creations. Some of them were still in the hands of Olivier, Fin and Luka, our framebuilders. Other ones, like Luc’s Voyage and Fabien’s Véloce, were ready for their first ride. At 4pm , the group took the direction of the B&B where we spent the weekend, at the west of the Chaine des Puys, while we were carrying the luggages. This first 36K ride, under a nice sun, was a good warm up for the next day.
Indeed, the Saturday was the big day, with three different routes of 100, 125 and 150 kilometers, to adapt to the shape of each one. After around forty hilly kilometers, we reached the start of the first difficulty, the Col du Guéry from Rochefort-Montagne, passing by the foot of the majestic Roches Tuillières et Sanadoire.
This is were the group split. A part went to Le Mont-Dore. After a stop at the bakery, we start to climb up to the Col de la Croix Saint Robert, the highest pass of the region at 1451 m. The winter was severe, and the road was still bordered by snowdrift. A powerful headwind was also here to remind us that, despite the mild weather, the Sancy is a harsh region.
The most cautious climbed directly up to the Col de la Croix-Morand, from the west side, where a solid ravitaillement waited for us at the Buron du Col. If you plan to come in the region, we highly recommend you to come there to taste the local specialty, la truffade !
After this profitable break, we joined the starting point via via Pessade and the Col de la Ventouse for the short route, or St Nectaire, Aydat and Vulcania for the long one.
On Sunday, we joined Beaumont under a cloudy sky. We made a stop by Thierry Courtadon’s workshop. Thierry is a famous local artist, who sculpts the volcanic Volvic stone. He is also a former pro cyclist and he shared a part of the ride with us.
We would like to thank all the participants who made this weekend a success.
